DEVELOPMENTAL DESIGN PROTOCOL
The ‘Developmental Design’ process was established by Tim O’Brien and his work with students at the Harvard Kennedy School. The process applies principles of adult development and learning to collective challenges that require real capacity building. ‘Capacity building’ is a widely used, very vague, term.
Developmental Design takes the demands of capacity building seriously by:
identifying a collective/systemic problem,
learning where stakeholders are in relation to the problem,
finding the stretch zone of optimal development,
scaffolding and intervening with supports and challenges,
planning for iterative learning, and
connecting project work with personal work.
This protocol is a work in progress. Please contact KONU with queries. Do not circulate without author’s consent.
