Gene Sun
SENIOR Associate
Gene is passionate about helping individuals, teams, and organizations develop their capacity to better understand themselves, their goals, and their potential for growth.
Gene’s professional journey has cut across multiple disciplines culminating in his work at KONU. He earned a B.S. in architecture from the University of Maryland, College Park where he developed a sensibility for the iterative nature of design and how culture and context inform spaces that foster community. Gene then brought his design mind to the work of helping individuals through fitness coaching, with specialties in corrective exercise, sports nutrition, and behavior change methodologies. In coaching, he found himself inspired by the richness and complexity of each of his clients’ unique lived experiences and humbled by the transformative process of helping them each find their own path to better wellness. He returned to his alma mater and received a master’s degree in industrial & organizational psychology to translate his skills for guiding change from the personal to the organizational level.
Gene’s experiences share a common thread - the understanding that addressing challenges starts with asking deep and meaningful questions, and that change is an enduring process that requires a willingness to examine, dismantle, and rebuild our working models for how we understand ourselves and the world around us.
In his spare time, Gene enjoys traveling to experience different cultures of food, people, and architecture. At home, he finds joy in books that invite the exploration of self, companionship with friends and his pup Opie, and peace through music and movement.
